Preventive dentistry

Twice a year, for about forty minutes, nothing much happens.

The American Dental Association recommends dental visits at least twice per year. At Mason Park Dental for Kids we follow that recommendation, and most visits end with nothing to do.

Why twice a year

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends dental visits at least twice per year. At Mason Park Dental For Kids, we follow that recommendation and provide high-quality dental cleanings and thorough preventive exams. This allows us to ensure your optimal oral health.

What the cleaning removes

Regular professional cleanings help remove built-up plaque and tartar. This removal is important for preventing tooth decay, periodontal disease, and other oral health issues. These cleanings can also help remove surface stains and keep your teeth looking whiter and brighter.

What the exam checks

During your examination, we will also:

  • Evaluate your overall oral health
  • Discuss oral hygiene practices and habits
  • Check your bite and jaw for any issues
  • Evaluate your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer
  • Evaluate existing tooth restorations
  • Take dental x-rays if necessary

Why Here

The appointment a child does not mind.

Nothing about a cleaning is difficult. Everything about it depends on whether the child will sit through it, which is what a pediatric practice is arranged around.

What is different about the room.

  • A screen on the wall, and an explanation of each instrument before it is used.
  • Infants and anxious toddlers examined knee to knee, on your lap.
  • Parents are always welcome to accompany their child.
  • X-rays taken only if they are necessary, and explained if they are.

Questions

What parents ask about the six-month visit.

From the practice’s own pediatric dentistry FAQ.

How often should kids come in?

Kids should come in every six months for cleanings and checkups. Some children may need more frequent visits depending on their oral health needs.

What happens during a cleaning?

A cleaning includes gentle plaque removal, polishing, fluoride application, and an oral exam to check teeth, gums, and bite development.

How do I prepare a nervous child?

Use positive language, read dental-themed books, and bring comfort items like a blanket or toy. Avoid words like “hurt” or “pain.”

Can I stay in the room?

Yes! Parents are always welcome to accompany their child if it helps them feel more comfortable.
