The appointment is twice a year. The routine is twice a day.
Professional dental cleanings are important for maintaining great oral health. However, it is vital that your child continues good dental hygiene at home as well.

At Home
What Dr. Nguyen actually asks families to do.

Brushing and flossing
Dr. Tam Nguyen recommends brushing at least twice per day and flossing daily. You should brush and floss your child’s teeth until they are old enough to do this unassisted. This helps prevent tooth decay, periodontal disease, and other oral health issues.
Fluoride, and what is on the plate
There are additional ways to help keep teeth strong and healthy. Toothpastes and mouth rinses with fluoride are available over-the-counter. Eating a balanced diet and limiting sugary snacks can also contribute to good oral health.
Water after meals, and the thirty minutes
When you can, have your child drink a glass of water after meals. This can help wash away sugars from foods and drinks. If something your child eats or drinks contains acids, such as sodas or candies, have them wait 30 minutes before brushing. This will allow their saliva time to neutralize the acids and protect their teeth.
By Age
Who is holding the brush.
You should brush and floss your child’s teeth until they are old enough to do this unassisted. Which age that is depends on the child, not the birthday.
You are
From the first tooth until the hands can manage it. A toddler cannot yet reach the back teeth, however willing they are.
Both of you are
They brush, then you brush after them. This is the longest stage and the one families abandon early.
They are
When you have watched them do it properly and unprompted. We will tell you at a visit if we can see it is not happening.
Healthy dental hygiene habits can help keep your child’s teeth strong and beautiful.
