When should my child first visit the dentist?
Children should visit a pediatric dentist by age one or within six months of their first tooth. This early visit helps prevent dental issues and establishes a positive relationship with the dentist.
How often should kids come in?
Kids should come in every six months for cleanings and checkups. Some children may need more frequent visits depending on their oral health needs.
Why a pediatric dentist rather than a family dentist?
Pediatric dentists receive specialized training in child behavior, growth, development, and children’s oral health needs, making them the best choice for infants, kids, and teens.
Do you accept new patients?
Yes. New and existing patients are welcome, from the first tooth through the teenage years. There is a new patient special of $129 for ages 12 and under, which includes a comprehensive exam, necessary x-rays and cleaning, plus a free fluoride treatment.
Why does my child need dental x-rays?
Digital x-rays magnify and enhance the teeth for better diagnosis and treatment, and let us see the teeth and surrounding structures with remarkable accuracy. They require much less radiation than traditional film x-rays, and we take them only if they are necessary.
What do I need to bring to the first appointment?
Photo ID and a copy of your insurance details, if you have a plan, plus the patient forms if you filled them in at home. If you have not, arrive twenty minutes early and the front desk will help.
Can I stay in the room with my child?
Yes! Parents are always welcome to accompany their child if it helps them feel more comfortable.
How do I prepare a nervous child?
Use positive language, read dental-themed books, and bring comfort items like a blanket or toy. Avoid words like “hurt” or “pain.”
Do you take insurance?
Yes! Mason Park Dental accepts most PPO insurance plans and Medicaid for qualified patients. We also offer transparent billing and flexible financing.
